Government Women's College

The college started at Government initiative on 11th July 1975 in the premises of M.P.K. Girl?s High School, Baripada where it continued till June, 2001, after which it was shifted to its present building. The college is the first Women?s College in Mayurbhanj district and it still occupies the pride of place as a premier women?s college of Mayurbhanj. At its beginning the college is affiliated to Utkal University with only Intermediate Arts class having a sanctioned strength of 128. B.A. class was opened in the academic session 1977-78 with strength of 32. Thereafter it was increased to 80 and further to 128 with effect from1991-92 and to 192 since 2003-04 session. With the merger of its +2 wing with M.P.C. Junior College, this college is a full ?fledged Degree College of Arts since 2001-02. Honours teaching was provided in phased manner-in Odia since 1989-90; in History and Political Science since 1991-92; in English and Economics since 1993-94 and in Education. Home Science and Psychology since 1995-96, with 16 seats in each Honours subject except History and Odia which provide for 32 seats each. Communicative English as a vocational subject was opened as an Elective in 2002-03. After opening of North Orissa University at Takatpur, Baripada on 11.07.1999, the College has been affiliated to this University. During 38 years pf its existence, the College has marched from strength to strength with its students showing excellence in both academic and co-curricular activities. With disciplined students, dedicated teachers, staff and the newly acquired huge infrastructures, the College envisages for itself brighter days ahead. However, Government of Odisha has taken initiative steps and one new building is under construction for this College.
