Dr GU Pope College of Education

The efforts taken by the people of Sawyerpuram and around Sawyerpuram area to build an College of Education in the name of "Dr.G.U.Pope" for which the foundation stone was laid by Rev.J.A.D.Jebachandran, M.A., B.D., Bishop in Thoothukudi-Nazareth Diocese on 5th October 2005. As stated above, the College was established and started on 8th July 2006 with 16 students, with six branches viz. Tamil English Mathematics Physical Science (Physics/Chemistry/Applied Physics) Biological Science (Botany/Zoology/Micro Biology) History. Our College started functioning in the year 2006 and in the five years of time, it has produced efficient faculty, who are working in various sophisticated places. At present, it is functioning very well under the leadership of Rev.D.Jesusahayam, Moderator's Commissiory, TND as the Chairman, Mr.R.M.C.Packiaraj as Correspondent, Mrs.A.Nightingale Mary Mangalamani as the Principal. Our College motto is "Be the first, Be With the First". Now, the College has met seven convocations for the batches 2006-07, 2007-08, 2009-10, 2010-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. "Service" alone is the prime aim of this College. Thus, it has been uplifting the standard of economically underprivileged students of Sawyerpuram and its vicinity, to the International Standards by acquiring scanty fee than the stipulated scale of the Government. Every year more than 80 students are being benefitted from the Dr. G.U. Pope College of Education , Sawyerpuram. More than 40 persons are working in the College in different categories. When the NCTE and TNTEU Certifying Committee visited ours, it appreciated the overall activities which are propelled with higher principles.Really, the dream of Dr. G.U. Pope to make Sawyerpuram a Educational place is achieved.
