Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College

To prepare students who will excel as proud zealous fearless and worthy doctors of the society & to serve medical realm of this nation. Maharashtra State Government declared to open a new medical college at Yavatmal. The college was named after Ex. Chief Minister Late Shri Vasantrao Naik who was very popular from this district during his life ti ame. This medical college was established due to the fruitful efforts of Late Shri Jawaharlalji Darda, Freedom fighter and former Health Minister and Late Shri Sudhakarraoji Naik former Chief Minister ofMaharashtra State . The first Dean of this medical college was Dr. V. S. GOSAVI from 17/05/1989 to 31/07/1993. Others who later occupied this chair were DR. N. K. DESHMUKH, DR. H. R. NAGARLE, DR. B. G. WAGHMARE, DR. R. K. AYACHIT, DR. V. K. BHUTADA, DR. A. A. PATHAK, DR. N. N. AMBHORE, DR. S. K. BOBHATE, Dr.A.P.DONGREall the above dignitaries tried their level best to improve medical college and Hospital administration, DR.A.D.RATHOD, MBBS, M.D(PAEDIATRICS)D.M(CARDIOLOGY) presentDean of this medical college is a very noble and soft spoken person who is giving his brilliant ideas and valuable guidance to this medical college administration to provide excellent medical education and hospital facilities to Yavatmal region. He is occupying the chair from 03 March 2015. Earlier this medical college was having 50 MCI approved admissions for MBBS course from June 1989. Since 1999 one hundred (100) students and from 2013-14 one fifty( 150 ) students are admitted. All these seats are approved by Medical Council of India.c Well furnished and ventilated Mail Administrative/Academic Building, Lecture Halls, excellent and renowned teaching staff, Hostel facilities for students with gymnasium, well equipped separate Library building are the assets of the institution. The library is rendering reading facility for teachers and students separately and also having special reading room facility for Post Graduate students. This college was initially affiliated to AMRAVATI University. Since 1998 the college is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, NASHIK. Dr.Jamkar, Vice-Chancellor (Phone No. 0253-2539114) and Dr. Garkal (Phone No. 0253-2539294) is Registrar of MUHS Nashik Univeristy In 2001, MCI approved to start PG courses in FORENSIC MEDICINE & TOXICOLOGY, OPHTHALMOLOGY & ENT. Post Graduate course in PEADIATRICS started since 2003. P.G.Course in Anatomy, Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Microbiology, Obstretics and Gynaecology started from 2010. Biochemistry &Pharmacology started from 2012. CPS Diploma courses (DGO, DA ) along with DNB Orthopedics are the bright features of this medical college. To provide excellent medical services to every patient this medical college offers specialty facilities like CT scan, Digital X-ray, Ultrasonography, Doppler vascular studies, Echo cardiograph etc. OPD services are available from 8.00 a. m. to 2-00 p. m. Doctors from various clinical subjects contribute their services and give valuable advice to these patients. Approximately 975 to 1050 patients avail the OPD facilities daily. Emergency medical services are available round the clock. This Medical College has an attached Hospital with indoor facilities for 594 beds. This institution has a separate, ART centre for this region, Sickle cell unit, Family planning unit, Immunization centre. Intensive coronary care unit with 8 bedded central monitoring system facility is available in this institution. Other acutely ill cases are specially treated in MICU, NICU & surgical recovery room. (Post operative cases). Poor patients are served Tea, Breakfast, lunch & Dinner free of cost. bDr.Dhavane is Suptd of Hospital and Dr.Ingale is Dept.Suptd of Hospital This institute has an incinerator for disposal for biological wastes, mechanical laundry for linen department, separate medical store & surgical stores to provide various requirements of wards and departments. For academic & extra curricular activities for our students we have an ultra modern and advanced auditorium in our college premises. The college provides residential facilities to the teaching & non teaching staff of this institution. Mortuary for custody deaths related matter for Amravati division, cold storage unit for mortuary, operative light mortuary are available in FMT department of this medical college. Preventive and Social Medicine department of this college has opened a rural health centre at Ralegaon in Kalamb Tahasil of this District. This department is also having urban health centre to take care of slum area patients at Yavatmal. Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College is progressing by leaps and bounds and the day is not far when it will gain recognition as one of the best medical colleges in the our State.
