Umshyrpi College

Umshyrpi College, a minority coeducational institution (Under section 2(g) of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions Act 2004 Vide letter no. CE/MS/1/2006/61) was established in the year 1994 by a group of like minded people with a common vision to accommodate students of all sections of the society in the area of higher education. Encouraged and initially sponsored by the Shillong Muslim Union (S.M.U.), the college which had a very humble beginning with only 32 students has now moved forward to make itself a centre of quality learning and strongly believes and upholds its motto, ?Haiya Allal Fallah"(Come Towards Prosperity). The institution provides mainstream education in Arts, Commerce and Science streams for classes XI and XII and Degree including Honours. Each and every department has highly qualified teachers who maintain high standards of teaching and education. The college has a well equipped library with internet facilities and students are constantly encouraged to use them to develop their learning and writing skills. The college gives due importance to the library which is a vital component of any institution of higher learning and viewing this, it is upgraded every year so that it caters to the needs of all levels of study. The college has always been taking a keen interest in organizing seminars, debates, and various other functions with a view to guide and help students unfold their creativity. Various awards have been conferred upon them in the field of art, culture and sports. The college has an active NCC Boys wing. The NSS unit of the college plays a proactive role in taking the students a step further and beyond. Over the years the institution has had a very impressive academic record. Students have also obtained ranks in the various examinations conducted both by the Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education as well as by N.E.H.U. The college attaches great importance to academic excellence and discipline and endeavours to inculcate in the minds of the students decency, decorum, honesty and integrity.
