Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

"Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Kaza, Distt. Lahaul & Spiti established in the year 2000 in its temporary abode, has carved a niche in the field of education in a short span of time. This extreme difficult region with an average elevation of 3650 mtrs (11980 feets) is devoid of flaura and fauna. The Vidyalaya is enclosed between the lofty mountain ranges with the Spiti River rising out of a gorge in the south east to make Satluj River. It is a typical cold desert region with its harshest and treacherous weather and the most winding waves. The Vidyalaya is housed in scattered accommodation; the academic block of the Vidyalaya facing the snow clad mountains offers a spectacular landscape of serenity. In fact the pollution free atmosphere of the exotic Spiti Valley has been an inspiring factor for the staff and students to pursue the noble task of teaching-learning process. The permanent site of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Kaza is under construction at village Lari near Tabo Monastery, which is about 50 kms towards Reckong Peo (Kinnaur) from present temporary site at Kaza. As a part of New Education Policy, 1986, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kaza, Distt. Lahaul & Spiti was established by the Then Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sh.P.S.Draik in the Tehsil Bhawan on 14.04.2000 with 40 students as the first batch for the academic year 2000-01. The Vidyalaya is the managed by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi: an autonomous organization working under the Department of Education, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. Sh.A.K.Mishra was the first Incharge Principal of the Vidyalaya."
