Besant Women's College

The management of the Besant Institutions was taken over by the Women?s National Education Society from the Theosophical Society in 1943. As heirs to the legacy of its revered founder, the Society felt the need for an institution to promote higher education among women. The late Manel Srinivas Nayak, a great philanthropist and visionary was at the helm of affairs of the Society when Besant Women?s College was established in 1977. His foresight and initiative, as well as the active leadership of his successors had played a vital role in the impressive growth of the College in a short span of time. Within the first decade itself the student strength shot up to one thousand and today it is one of the leading women?s Colleges in the city.
