Gopabandhu Choudhury College

Gopabandhu Choudhury College, the senior most college in the district is situated on the bank of river Brahmani at Ramachandrapur under Bari Block of Jajpur District. The college spreads over a compact area of nine acres of land where a good academic environment prevails. It's beautiful location, heavenly serenity and a rural touch provide an idyllic condition for learning. Because of historical reason as well as geographical location Ramachandrapur happens to be the nerve centre of education both for Bari and Binjharpur Block. The place where the present college stands was once a centre for basic education which used to generate freedom fighters for fighting against British Imperialism under the inspiring leadership of late Gopabandu Choudhury one of the illustrious freedom fighter of Odisha. Peope from all parts of the country used to come to this place for education as well as training which would enable them to foster civil consciousness and national awakening. After independence the concept of establishing a college was given shape by the combined effort some enlightened people who were imbibed with the Saga of freedom struggle. Infact the present college was born July 26, 1965 and was named after late Gopabandhu Choudhury. The college was granted affiliation by the Utkal University for P.U. Science and Arts in the year 1965 and for 1st year degree in Arts and Science in the same year. Later on these classes were converted to I.A. and I.Sc in keeping with the change of curriculum of the university. B.A. classes of the college were opened in the year in 1973 and affiliation of Honours in History, Economics, Pol. Science and Oriya were granted with effect from the academic session 1980-81 and I.Com classes from 1981-82 and B.Sc classes from 1982-83. +3 B.A. & B.Sc. classes have started from 8.5.1986.B.Sc Hons. (Physics) has started from 1991-92, B.Com classes from 1991-92 & B.Sc. Hons. (Chem. & Math.) and B.A. Hons (English & Philosophy) have started from 1994-95. B.Sc Hons (Zoology & Botany) have started from 1996-97.
