Ismail Yusuf College, as it is popularly known, is managed by Government of Maharashtra It is the oldest college in North Mumbai It was established in 1930 with a big treasure-trove of donation from Sir Mohammed Yusuf Ismail, K T, on the Jogeshwari Hill The foundation stone was laid by Sir Leslie Orme Wilson, Governor of Bombay in 1924 The vision of the founding fathers shaped up a temple of learning in the sandstone in the regal Persian style with arches and spacious corridors, surrounded by countless big abundantly bearded banyans and palms stretching heavenward dotting the horizon History of the college shows that students of this college have succeeded in all fields of life Only to name a few: Shri AR Antuly (Ex-chief Minister, Maharashtra), Shri PL Deshpande (a giant figure in literary and cultural activities), Dr RafiqueZakaria, Dr AU Shaikh (Retd I A S ), Snehaprabha Pradhan, Shri RN Haldipur (Retd Governor, Pondichery, NEFA), and Shri KP Medhekar ( IPS, Retd D G P Maharashtra) etc
